There is an information overload today. To manage information in a way that corresponds to the needs of citizens in a democracy, it is important to have a frame of reference, a window of perception, a world view. Ideally, such a perception will be benevolent to others, ideally compassionate. The Priorities Institute uses a holistic index. Simply put, we look at life organically, from birth to death, and from the individual outwards to the family, neighborhood, region, nation & world. From this perspective one can clearly identify our individual and collective needs, basic needs with dignity.
