Horse & Carriage - Dunkelsbuhl, Germany - 1993
Sacramento, CA - Sept. 2001
The practicality and beauty of horses is underutilized in modern society. One of the best modes of transportation for thousands of years has been the horse, and today it is more of an oddity or tourist attraction than the respected natural beauty that it should be.
Granted, today's cities are wholly unsuitable or even hostile to horses (and most animals), but with a little imagination it could be a wonderful asset to modern life. New communities could be designed with back yard trails leading to markets, recreation, and even to our jobs. Stables could be built near the employment and cultural core of newly designed cities so people could safely tie up their horses in the same way we park our automobiles on asphalt slabs.
Horses represent human communion with nature. They offer a healthy lifestyle and add aesthetic elegance to our otherwise concrete urban jungles and alienating suburban sprawl.
